Two years ago, I defected (as my friends say!) from the corporate life and entered the world of small business. What a rewarding experience it has been! Perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects in my career transition is meeting and getting to know other small business owners. I always love hearing about their interesting backgrounds and am constantly inspired by their incredible skills and passion for their work. I thought it would be fun to start photographing them and incorporating their stories into a small business profile segment of the ADP blog.
Today I’m featuring Ramat Oyetunji, the Founder and CEO of The FI Woman, LLC which provides financial advising to reach the ultimate goal of Financial Independence. She also published a book Fifty Shades of Green: A Stock Market Guide for the Financially Independent-minded Woman last year. It’s an easy-to-read guide to the stock market that was written with the main goal of inspiring women to take control of their finances by understanding the basics of investing in the stock market.
Check out the little interview I did with Ramat and a few shots from our professional headshot session below!

What products or services do you sell?
I provide financial and investment advice through a simple online platform. My services focus on budgeting, debt management and investing. I create personalized roadmaps that provide step-by-step guidance on how to achieve your stated financial goals.
How did your business get started?
I started The FI Woman as a way to help people better understand and manage their finances. My drive to help others with their finances stems from my personal journey, which started about 15 years ago when I was laid off from my first job after graduating college. The experience had a profound effect on me and helped me understand the importance of budgeting, living below my means, and more importantly, saving for a rainy day. Professional financial advice helps establish a solid financial foundation; however, seeking professional financial advice can be costly. My mission is to make professional advice affordable for anyone, and with an online process. I hope to make it easily accessible, and less intimidating.
What is your background (Education, Work Experience)?
I earned an MBA in 2005, and I have more than 15 years of experience investing in the stock market. I worked as a financial advisor for Edward Jones in 2008.
What is your proudest achievement since opening your business?
Finding different ways to change traditional financial planning services. As an example, designing personalized financial plans that are visual and easy to follow, instead of long 10-20 page reports.
If you could give your customers one piece of advice, what would it be?
The earlier you start financial planning, the better. It isn’t as complicated as it sometimes appears.
Coffee or Tea?
Both! Coffee during the day and tea at night.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
An engineer. My undergraduate degree is in Mechanical Engineering, and I currently balance being an engineer with my passion for providing financial advice.
What inspires you?
Seeing others succeed and knowing that I had a hand in helping them get there. In addition, watching my 3 year old daughter approach everything with such confidence is very inspirational. I learn a lot from her.
What do you work towards in your free time?
What free time?! I am always working towards improving my business and finding ways to provide more value with my services. I also work hard to find the right balance between work, managing my business, and family time.
What are your hobbies? Any professional or community organizations that you participate in?
I love books and enjoy visiting libraries and bookstores with my daughter. I am a member of the Philadelphia HBA (Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association) chapter, and I participate in various community activities.
Why did you seek out professional photography services?
A business’ image is important. As the face of The FI Woman, I felt it was important to get professional photographs for use in various types of communication with clients, potential clients and the public.
How was your experience with Audrey Ditzler Photography?
I had a wonderful experience. Audrey is professional, but she also made the process fun. She suggested different ideas to ensure that I achieved my goals for the session, including suggesting a makeup artist, and selecting the perfect location for the session.
Thanks so much, Ramat, for choosing me for your professional headshot photos! Also, special thanks to Sara of Elegance Artistry for providing her makeup services for the shoot.
